How Your Wishes Could Come True; Wish Cash for Your Community

Article excerpt

TODAY we introduce you to community groups across Teesside who need your help to grab a share of pounds 25,000

More than 200 groups are registered in our first-ever Wish campaign - and every single one is guaranteed a payout from our cashpot.

But the size of the cheque will depend on how much support they gain from Evening Gazette readers in the form of tokens.

Starting today, we'll be printing Wish tokens every day in the Gazette for eight weeks (look in the main paper to find tonight's tokens).

The cashpot will be divided by the number of tokens collected - so the bigger a group's share of the tokens, the bigger its share of the money. It's important to remember that every token counts - so make sure you help out your favourite cause.

Our registered groups range from sports clubs to music groups, schools to old folks' groups and many more besides. We've got groups spread right across Teesside, covering every community and every age range. There really is something for everyone to get behind.

In this special 24-page supplement we detail every group on our Wish List to help you decide which to support.

We tell you what the group does and why it needs your help. And we've published a name and address to send your tokens to.

You can also go online to our community sites on to find which groups are collecting tokens in your postal area.

Each group has also been sent a special starter pack - including a token collection box - to help them collect tokens in their own community.

Groups have just eight weeks to collect as many tokens as possible and we'll let everyone know the size of their share of the pounds 25,000 in December - just in time to get cheques out for Christmas.

Evening Gazette editor Darren Thwaites said: "We've been delighted at how many community groups have applied for a share of our Wish money.

"There are so many deserving causes across every community. We know the money is going to be put to very good use in our local area. …
