YOUNG footballers are getting a kick out of the help they've received from a community-minded pharmacist.

Sanjeev Varma, who owns Whale Hill Pharmacy in Eston, has helped to ensure Grangetown youth and community centre's minibus has remained on the road, as well as providing football strips.

Now, appreciative football volunteer Dave Littlewood, who runs the under-18 team at the centre, wants to heap praise on Mr Varma.

He has nominated the generous businessman in the social enterprise category of the Evening Gazette's Community Champion Awards which is sponsored by Stockton Riverside College.

Mr Littlewood said: "I run a junior football team and each year we look for local business people to help us.

"Mr Varma has bought football strips for the youth club team and has put a new exhaust on our minibus.

"We strive to keep youngsters off street corners and with this man' help each year our aims have been made much easier. …
