Woman Describes Fleeing a Carjacker; She Says He Threatened Her with a Lighter; Her Car Is Found on Fire

The gunman held a lighter flame to her face and said he'd burn her if she didn't take her dress off.

But the Jacksonville woman fought back anyway, running into a stranger's yard to escape the carjacker she told police took her hostage Monday night.

One of the people who helped the 41-year-old victim told the Times-Union on Tuesday that friends were putting up Halloween lights at a Pickettville Road residence when the woman came out of the dark wearing a torn dress.

The victim was waiting for her son to come out of a West Beaver Street store with school supplies when the gunman got into her car and made her drive away, according to the witness.

"She kept watching to see if the guy was coming back," the 56-year-old witness said. "... She got damn well lucky to get out of the situation she was in."

The Times-Union isn't identifying the victim or any witnesses for safety reasons because police haven't reported any arrests in the case. …
