Living Fashion: Brando with a Girly Touch Is Really Wild; Vicky Pepys on 'Biker' Styling at Its Best

Article excerpt

ALL it takes is the colour black, a cinched in waist, long gloves and tough boots. The new Warrior aka Tough Girl aka Biker look is BIG this season and so easy to mimic whether you buy into it or not.

It comes as no surprise that it's the 100th birthday of the Harley Davidson and there's been much interest in the re-launch of Belstaff, the original biker clothing, which surprisingly was never made of leather.

Inspiration always comes from somewhere.

Leather, real or lookey-likey, has simply been rediscovered and its most funky usage so far is the globally recognisable biker jacket, the design virtually unchanged since The Wild One with Marlon Brando; this is surely the first item of clothing to be termed as "boyfriend-wear" And now a design classic, equally at home teamed with denim or chiffon. To make it girly and slightly mischievous this season's jacket is pared down to crop styles in softer leathers, or PVC's.

Look how glamorous it looks with organza and satin and how cute with little flared skirts, slim pencil shapes and thick tights. The finishing touches are long gloves (harder to find than you think, check out vintage stores) and the right boots.

Authenticates can search for more traditional style flat biker boots but heels add femininity to what is essentially a tough image.

A good compromise is the chunky shoe-boot, this kind of 'attitude' dressing starts with the way you walk after all.
