NOCATEE DEVELOPER WINS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

The Northeast Florida Regional Council on Oct. 11 recognized The PARC Group Inc. for its environmental work on Nocatee, a master planned community that will preserve two-thirds of its 15,000 acres.

The Council gave PARC its Regional Award for Excellence in Environmental Stewardship for the Town of Nocatee, whose acreage straddles Duval and St. Johns counties.

Its preserved land includes a greenway and the 2,400-acre Nocatee Preserve along the Tolomato River.

Nocatee's developed land will hold 14,000 homes, 4 million square feet of office space and 1 million square feet of retail.

RUSSIANS HERE TO LEARN TRANSPORTATION BUSINESS

More than a dozen logisticians from Russia will be touring Jacksonville transportation companies over the next week and a half, learning how logistics are done on the First Coast. The visit is sponsored by the University of North Florida's Coggin College of Business and Continuing Education and the Jacksonville Oceanside Rotary Club. During the trip, the participants - all owners or directors of logistics companies - will tour the facilities of Jacksonville Port Authority, Ceva Logistics, Con-Way Freight-Southern and others.

ORACLE HUNTS DOWN RIVAL BUSINESS SOFTWARE MAKER

Pouncing on a vulnerable rival, Oracle Corp. has offered $6.7 billion to buy BEA Systems Inc. in its latest bid to trump SAP AG and IBM Corp. in an increasingly intense business software battle.

Oracle unveiled its $17-per-share cash offer Friday, one day after BEA rejected it as inadequate, according to a letter BEA released a few hours after Oracle's revelation catapulted its stock to a new 52-week high. BEA makes "middleware," products that help software applications run more smoothly on top of databases, while Oracle makes business management and database software. …
