A MAN remains critical but stable in hospital today after being attacked in a bar and left for dead.

Paul Cavner, 43, suffered severe head injuries in the assault, when he was jumped on by several men.

It is believed he had commented on criminal damage in the pub when a window was smashed after he went into a toilet.

Police were called to the Prince of Wales pub, Waterloo Road, Blyth, on Wednesday night as a brawl broke out.

Today Mr Cavner's family released this first picture as he recovers from emergency surgery in Newcastle General hospital.

Det Chief Insp Mark Anastasi, heading the inquiry, said: "We have arrested a fourth man in connection with the incident.

"We will be questioning him and seeking more time to question three others arrested following the assault."

The fight happened at around 7pm and police arrested three men at the scene. The men arrested are aged 34, 30, 24 and 22. …
