WITH less than ten weeks to go until Christmas, planning is well under way to bring plenty of festive cheer to the Tees Valley.

So here's a sneak peak at some of the great Yuletide events taking place this year.


THERE will be festive fun galore at Stockton Sparkles - a programme of free events spread across five weeks in the run up to the big day.

The action gets under way on Sunday, November 25, with the town's big Christmas lights switch on.

Jennie McAlpine, who is known to millions as fiery Fizz in Coronation Street, will be in town to help Santa switch on the lights at 4.30pm.

There will also be music from Big Sigh And The Yawns, playing favourite tunes from the '70s to now. The Salvation Army Band will also be performing.

Fireworks will then light up the sky over Stockton High Street after the big switch on.

OTHER events taking place include:

Saturday, December 1

Rodeo Reindeer*, Christmas carols with the salvation Army Band and street entertainers from Arc.

Sunday, December 2

Craft Fair, located in the Parish Church, 10am-4pm and live music out in the town centre.

Saturday, December 8

Fun, games and fancy dress at Stockton's famous market, dance performances Teesside group Urban Kaos and pirate-themed events.

Sunday, December 9

Santa and his reindeers arrive in Stockton for the day, the parade starts at 1pm.

Saturday, December 15

Carols in the High Street with all of Stockton's churches, accompanied by the Salvation Army Band.

Sunday, December 16

Come on down to witness the finals of the world's very first Parmo Competition.

You can also enjoy food, dances and more from several cultures across the globe.

There'll also be entertainment from hilarious Holly and Ivy - aka the Christmas crackers

Thursday, December 20

Board the Santa Express* - a journey around Stockton High Street stopping off at Santa's Grotto. …
