Woods Named to Fill Vacancy Left by Fletcher

ATLANTIC BEACH - The woman narrowly defeated in the Seat 2 City Commission election this month was appointed to the board by a commission that voted to have her replace Seat 4 Commissioner Jamie Fletcher who unexpectedly resigned last week.

Carolyn Woods took the oath of office Monday to replace Fletcher, who stepped down due to an undisclosed illness of his wife, Rosemary, in the middle of his four-year term. Jamie Fletcher's resignation took effect at 4 p.m. Monday and he was not present for the vote. Woods will now join John Fletcher who defeated her in the Oct. 2 primary by 42 votes out of nearly 2,300 cast.

The commission vote in favor of Woods over three other prospects was three votes in favor with Mike Borno dissenting.

Woods will join her former opponent Commissioner-elect John Fletcher who will be sworn in Nov. 5 after one of the nastiest campaigns this year.

Woods called police about a series of e-mails being circulated in the city regarding the election. …
