A "CRAFTY" heroin addict who preyed on a vulnerable 81-year-old Teesside woman has been jailed.

Amy McCabe befriended the elderly Stockton woman, only to steal from her twice - until she was caught by the woman's diligent family.

McCabe, 21, helped the lady with her shopping, then started visiting the sheltered accommodation where she lived alone.

She had cups of tea at the one-bedroom flat and offered to do domestic chores, "ingratiating herself" with the resident, prosecutor Sam Faulks told Teesside Crown Court.

On June 7, the elderly woman left her wallet containing pounds 210 from her pension on a coffee table.

McCabe visited saying: "You make the tea, I'll just go to the toilet."

By the time the tea was made, both McCabe and pounds 195 of the cash was gone, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Five days later, McCabe did the same thing, this time taking pounds 104 Giro money from the wallet in the living room. …
