Home Price Fall 'Curbed by Smaller Market' Stocks and Shares

THE UK stock market opened the week in positive territory as the FTSE 100 Index added 44.7 points to close at 6706. Strong mineral prices pushed companies in the mining sector to the top of the headline index's leader board, whilst the real estate sector and house builders were among the weaker performers.

On the economic front, Hometrack, the property information group, said house prices in England and Wales fell during October, the first decline in two years.

Director of research Richard Donnell said this was not unexpected and any falls in the coming months would be limited as the current uncertainty in the housing market appeared to be resulting in fewer homes being put up for sale.

This should support underlying prices.

In The Journal 40, Sage Group, the business software group, acquired KCS Global, a supplier of personnel, payroll and time and attendance software, for pounds 20m in cash. The KCS buy will develop Sage's offering in HR and payroll after the takeover of Snowdrop last May. …
