- The Colorado Rockies petition Major League Baseball for another best-of-7 series with the Boston Red Sox (scary for Rockies hitters, who were quiet for four consecutive games).

- The NFL suspends New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick (left) three games for running up the score on teams (scary for the Pats' future opponents, who still lose by an average of 44 points).

- The NHL announces it has awarded a franchise to Jacksonville for next year to help boost league attendance (scary that someone could even think of that possibility).

- The NBA follows suit one week later with the same announcement (see above).

- With the Jaguars' signing of Grady Jackson, the team announces that Jackson, Marcus Stroud and John Henderson will visit area businesses to "encourage" the purchase of tickets (scary when you think of the scowls they would show when the answer is no).

- In order to promote good sportsmanship, Florida and Georgia officials announce that Gators fans will sit in even-numbered seats and Bulldogs fans in odd-numbered seats during next year's game (scary to think how many more police officers would have to patrol the stadium).

- The FCC rules that all sports-talk radio shows will be banned if they don't have something meaningful, informative or truthful to talk about (scary to think how quiet it would be at times on the two local all-sports radio stations)
