Queen arrives to open new leisure complex.

BILLINGHAM Forum opened its doors for the first time when the pounds 1m development was officially opened by the Queen and Prince Philip and it was hoped to have as many as 30,000 people through its doors in the first week. During the opening week there were demonstrations of archery and swimming.

Tees tunnel needed to ease traffic problems

TEESSIDE needed a tunnel under the Tees from the region of the General Hospital to Portrack roundabout in the opinion of Mr S M Thompson at Middlesbrough's Chamber of Commerce. Such a tunnel would take away all through traffic leaving Newport from the local area.

New bishop takes his place
