Dr Who Fans Gather to Meet Their Heroes

DOCTOR Who fans are set to fill one of the region's hotels over the weekend as they get the chance to meet one of the famous doctors himself, among many other special guests.

Washington's Holiday Inn is to play host to the 2007 Dimensions convention, an unofficial Doctor Who event which boasts stars including Colin Baker, who played the sixth Doctor, Honor Blackman, who took on the Professor Lasky role, and Katy Manning, who played Jo Grant in the 1970s alongside former Doctor Jon Pertwee, as well as the odd Dalek.

Co-owner of 10th Planet Events, which is staging the annual festival of all things Doctor Who, Derek Hamley, said: "This is a great region in which to hold the conference as the fans really get into it here."

The two-day event begins today when the guests include Elisabeth Sladen, the lead in the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, and her sidekick Yasmin Paige, who played Maria Jackson, as well as Angela Bruce who played Brigadier Winifred Bambera in 1989's Doctor Who, and Anneke Wills, who is more widely recognised by Doctor Who fans as the 1960s Doctor's companion Polly Wright. …
