WHAT WENT RIGHT FOR FSU

SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Gary Cismesia booted first-half field goals of 41 and 39 yards and Graham Gano and Brent Moody averaged 43.2 yards on five punt attempts. Gano also rushed 24 yards for a first down with a fake punt. Cismesia added a 50-yard field goal in the Seminoles' go-ahead 15-point third quarter.

SECOND HALF RESILIENCE: The Seminoles came roaring back with 15 third-quarter points, erasing a 20-6 halftime deficit. FSU got it done with backup QB Christian Ponder throwing an 8-yard touchdown pass to De'Cody Fagg after linebacker Dekoda Watson's 40-yard interception return for a score set up the rally.

WHAT WENT WRONG FOR FSU

DEFENSIVE BREAKDOWNS: Virginia Tech torched the FSU defense for a handful of big plays in building a 20-6 halftime lead. QB Tyrod Taylor scrambled 38 yards and connected with Justin Harper for completions covering 31, 48 and 28 yards. Harper added a 45-yard reception in the fourth quarter, setting up Taylor's go-ahead touchdown run with 10:10 remaining. …
