DuPont Plant Donates $5,000 to City and Schools

Christmas came early for the City of Keystone Heights and Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High School when David Wright of DuPont Florida Plant in Starke donated proceeds to the city and school. The Starke plant was honored as one of 12 teams selected to receive that company's 2007 Sustainable Growth Award for excellence in water conservation and community support efforts, which came with a $5,000 cash award. In return, DuPont decided to split the grant between the city and school.

"That was nice, very nice," Principal Susan Sailor said after receiving the $2,500 check at Monday's city council meeting.

Wright said the grant came with specifications as to its use, and the school plans to use the funds in its science department. Mayor Mary Lou Hildreth thanked DuPont for its generosity, and Wright said the city's portion of the funds will be used toward a "let's go native" project earmarked to establish drought resistant plants in the city. …
