Anglers averaged six fish per visit, with Geoff Moralee from Crook landing 25 trout to 5lb and Ian Barnett from Wolsingham catching 27 trout to 4lb on Black and Green lures. P Walker from Teesside had 14 trout to 5lb and Shaun Smith 13 fish to 5lb. Trout were close to the surface most days. The fishery is only closed on Christmas Day, with bookings advised during the festive period.


Final figures forthe season at fly-only Blackton show 1728 angler visits, with anglers catching a total of 6010 trout at a rod average of 3.5 trout per visit. Best rainbow for the season was a 6lb 8oz specimen. Largest blue weighed 2lb 8oz and best brown tipped the scales at 2lb.


A total of 13,345 anglers caught 38,729 trout during the season. Graham Johnson landed the best fish, weighing 181b 11oz. Top blue weighed in at:41b and best brown was a lovely 51b 8oz specimen.


Best fish this week was a 41b rainbow caught by M De Costa. The season had 9,111 angler visits with 29,284 trout weighed in at a rod average of 3.2 per visit. Best blue was an excellent 8lb 4oz specimen, and top brown tipped the scales at 4lb.

Trout have been deep recently with fast sinking lines working well. The lakes were stocked with some bid fish in to 20lb and anglers have had plenty double figure catches of late. Best flies are still Bloodworm, Zonkers, Black Fritz, Cats Whisker, PTN, Black Buzzer and Yellow or Sunburst Blob.


Mild days saw anglers doing very well. Cold, wet and windy conditions made the trout a little 'stroppy' but in general sport was good. Black again was the 'in' colour for flies and lures. Black Humungus, Bloodworms, Vibrating Daddies and Zonkers all took fish, with the Black Buzzer also figuring catches some days. Most trout were caught on intermediate lines. Closing dates over the festive period will be as usual during the Christmas and New Year week. The fishery is closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of both weeks.

Rods averaged five fish per visit, with T Hill from Durham landing no fewer than 12 trout for his visit. Ken Braithwaite from Coldwell had 10 fish, with Peter Crowe and Ernie Craster having 10 fish and nine respectively. Black and Green lures did well, and even Daddies took fish at the surface. Goldheads were also effective fished slowly. The fishery will only be closed on Christmas Day.
