EXPECT blood on the carpet at The Spectator next week. Editor MatthewD'Ancona is said to be "absolutely furious" at the raft of mistakes in thisweek's edition of the distinguished Right-wing magazine, which this year marksits 180th anniversary.

It is a smorgasbord of cock-ups. An article by Tory Schools spokesman MichaelGove on the plight of Kenya is flagged on the front page but fails to appearinside the magazine; an article by Clemency Burton-Hill plugging an ITV showshe appears in is duplicated two pages later; and a piece on terrorism by theQueen Mother's biographer William Shawcross ends in mid-sentence.

D'Ancona is currently on holiday in Gran Canaria but his break has been farfrom relaxing since he learned of the magazine's foul-ups. According to asource he will march back into the office on Monday and demand "a full inquest"into errors.

No doubt this will include preparations for the New Year issue. The bumperChristmas magazine was a triple issue which left staff with time on their handsafter the festive break. …
