ANDREW THORNTON will be watching from his armchair when Arnold Laynesteps up in grade to compete in Saturday's [pounds sterling]70,000 Totesport.com Classic Chaseat Warwick.

The jockey lost a winner and collected a three-day ban when Niche Market wasdisqualified in a novice chase at Exeter on New Year's Day.

And it is that suspension that prevents him from attempting to win a fifthstraight race on Arnold Layne, the 7-1 joint-second favourite with the sponsorsfor the race.

At Warwick last time Arnold Layne jumped spectacularly for Thornton, showinghis liking for the same track, trip and soft conditions that he will face thisweekend.

Thornton's absence has left trainer Caroline Bailey searching for a suitablereplacement. "There's no doubt that I would have preferred to have him on boardagain," she said today.
