Truck Firm Drives Ahead with Plans to Sell Cars; in Association with RBS

A TRUCK company run by two sisters is driving ahead with a new franchise which sees it move into selling cars.

At fast-growing Bell Truck Sales, Carolyn Bayne and Yvonne Bell have just finished the pounds 200,000 refurbishment of a vacant site in East Boldon after signing a deal with Suzuki to sell its cars there.

It is the first time in seven years that the pair have sold cars, deciding instead to focus on selling trucks and vans at their six sites in Longbenton, Gateshead, Birtley, Spennymoor, Stockton and Billingham.

They did sell Mercedes cars between 1989 and 2001 in Coldstream, but stopped after a restructure at the manufacturer.

The new site has seen the group add five new employees to its 250-strong workforce, with more expected later this year.

Despite the current retail slump, the Bells feel it is the right time

to diversify their portfolio after years of investment building their dealership network. Yvonne said: "We have focused on vans and other large vehicles for a number of years now, which has proved very profitable, but feel it is now the right time to move back into cars in order to vary our range. …
