HUNT racing enthusiasts had been looking forward to a double header this weekend to launch the 2008 season but the early abandonment of tomorrow's West Percy meeting at Alnwick, due to parts of the track being waterlogged, means all roads lead to Sheriff Hutton for today's Yorkshire Point to Point Club fixture.

Admission is pounds 7.50 per person at this new course in the grounds of Mick Easterby's racing stables which offers good viewing for spectators. The going is soft, heavy in places for a six-race card with 141 entries, starting at noon.

Potoffairies can take advantage of a significant drop in class by landing the Club Members Race for 10-year-olds and upwards. He was never beaten more than 14 lengths in Ladies Opens and Hunter Chases last season, catching my eye when third to Lord Jack at Dalston.

Royal Return scored first time out on soft going at Brocklesby Park 12 months ago and this progressive youngster, trained near the course by David Easterby, is fancied to strike again on her seasonal reappearance in the Restricted Race from Shapani. …
