Bishop Sets out Stall for Church Marriage; Right Rev Will Attend Wedding Show Event

THE Bishop of Jarrow is to attend a wedding fair this weekend in an attempt to persuade more couples to tie the knot at church.

The UK Wedding Show arrives at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on Friday, with a range of stalls offering would-be brides and grooms a taste of what is possible on their big day.

And the Right Reverend Mark Bryant will be inviting couples to "think church" as they make their preparations.

Among the stalls, which will offer ideas on every aspect of wedding planning, will be a stand staffed by Church of England priests tasked with helping people locate their local parish church.

Couples will also have the chance to find out more about choirs, hymns and Bible readings, as well as the deeper meaning behind wedding ceremonies.

Canon Michael Webb, chair of the House of Clergy for the Newcastle Diocese, said: "Most clergy really value the opportunity to meet couples and discuss the possibility of them being married in church. …
