THIS month sees the launch by Pitman Training Newcastle of a full range of training courses aimed at anyone in the North East interested in a career in IT.

Branded as TechTrain, these courses cover all of the Microsoft and CompTIA-certified qualifications.

Dave Stevens, of Pitman Training in Newcastle, said: "Many people fancy a career in IT, but don't know where to start.

"It's not just about qualifications, but being Microsoft or CompTIA certified will improve your chances of getting on to the IT career ladder."

Not surprisingly given that the courses are about IT, they use a combination of the latest computer and internet technologies including multimedia CDs, online mentoring, online progress testing and virtual labs.

There is also a weekly webinar, providing a virtual classroom environment.

Each course typically takes around 10 weeks to complete, involving around 10-15 hours per week of study.

Students can work at home, in their own time, but if they don't have home internet access, or they prefer the discipline of setting aside time for studying, then they can complete the course in the Pitman Training centre at Hood Street, near Grey's Monument. …
