TEACHING your offspring to drive is never a bundle of laughs.

But it does bring out the best and the worst in some people, especially other motorists.

My youngest is learning to drive, and when she's not having lessons with her "official" instructor she's keen to get in as many hours practice as possible.

So whenever I'm picking her up or dropping her off we whip out the L plates and she gets behind the wheel of my car.

It's a welcome break for mum's taxi service, as it means I can sit in the passenger seat and enjoy a few minutes R&R while she ferries herself around.

So far we've only had cross words once.

On that occasion she pulled into a bus stop, got out of the driving seat, and told me she was never going out driving with me again.

That lasted all of two days.

No, my gripe is with the number of arrogant drivers who have forgotten they were once learners. …
