VIVIENNE Westwood, Stella McCartney and Scott Henshall should prepare for competition on the high street from budding North East fashion designers.

Newcastle department store Fenwick has joined forces with Northumbria University in a bid to showcase the talents of its design students.

As part of a long-term project to benefit both design and marketing students, the partnership aims to provide support at every stage of their studies.

From first years to final collections, Fenwick, in Northumberland Street, will be getting involved in a series of initiatives, including industry lectures and fashion shows.

The highlight of the collaboration is centred on the newly created Fenwick Fashion Award 2008, which involves the retailer transforming its store windows into a week-long workshop in which fourth-year students will finish their final collections.

Lindsey McKenna, head of marketing at Fenwick, is set to kick-start a series of industryspecific lectures with a presentation on fashion marketing to help students get a better understanding on how their skills will translate over into the world of work. …
