A LAST-gasp winner allowed North Shields First XI to take all three points from Durham City Thirds with a 3-2 victory.

Shields viewed this as a potential banana skin with Durham having proven themselves able to take home advantage from their pitch, and the game was littered with mistakes, particularly in the midfield.

However the Shields' wingers and forwards were still able to make a nuisance of themselves, tormenting the Durham defenders.

Shields took the lead in the first half with a breakaway goal by Dave Yellowley from a defensive short corner, but this was nullified when a wayward midfield pass gifted Durham an equaliser.

Shields' frustration was evident, but the second half went much the same as the first, except Durham were creating as many opportunities as Shields.

Neither team could capitalise as the half wore on but seven minutes from time Durham took the lead and must have thought they had done enough.

Shields, though, had other ideas and captain Kieran Conway lofted a ball for Richy Foster to chase. …
