Three Held over Crime Posters! Youngsters Beat off Hundreds to Snatch Prizes

THESE three youngsters beat off hundreds of others in a poster competition to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Around 1,800 nine and 10-year-olds entered the competition and now the winners' posters will be developed with a graphic designer and circulated around schools.

The Actions Behaviour Consequences project is a joint initiative between Northumbria Police and Newcastle Neighbourhood Renewal and is managed by Safe Newcastle.

Up to 26 primary schools from North, East and West Newcastle took part in the competition and there were three runner-up schools in each area. Three children from the winning and runner-up schools will go to Kingswood Educational Activity Centre in February.

Ten-year-old Alex Cook loved being shown around the police station. He said: "I didn't think I was going to win as a few people had really good posters."

The Welbeck Primary School pupil, who lives in Monkchester Road, Walker, said: "My mum is really proud of me. …
