Beatles' Maharishi Dies at 91 after Saying Work Is Finished; in the Groove: The Beatles Became Followers in the Late Sixties, but There Was Later a Famous Falling out over Mia Farrow

MAHARISHI Mahesh Yogi, the guru to the Beatles who broughttranscendental meditation to the West, has died at his Holland home. He wasthought to be 91.

The man who set a generation of stars on the path to spiritual enlightenmentdied in his sleep yesterday at his home in the town of Vlodrop, his spokesman,Bob Roth, said. His death appeared to be due to "natural causes, his age".

Tributes were paid today by many of the Yogi's celebrity followers. Blue Velvetdirector David Lynch said that he believed the Maharishi has laid thegroundwork for world peace, even if that was not immediately apparent fromworld affairs.

"It's a big, big sorrow, and yet, you know, he's in a very good place. Healways was. Peace is coming," Lynch said.

Born in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, the Maharishi trained as aphysicist before devoting himself to the spiritual world. He brought hismovement to the West in 1959, with the intention of creating individual peaceand enlightenment. …
