PAUL COLLINGWOOD led the way with a blistering half-century here asEngland clinched the Twenty20 series 2-0 today with a 50-run victory.

Captain Collingwood blasted 54 from just 28 balls, with three sixes and fivefours, to set up a total of 193 for eightnine more than they managed in Auckland two nights ago when beating New Zealandby 32 runs.

And that proved more than enough as the hosts could only post a total of 143for eight in reply.

Collingwood set the foundations for victory but he was not the only star of theshow for England. Owais Shah (47 from 35 deliveries) helped him add 102 in 10overs for the fifth wicketa record stand for England in Twenty20 cricket. And, at the top of the innings,Phil Mustard crashed 40 off 24 balls.

But the visitors needed some inspiration after a mid-innings slip, andCollingwood was bang up to the job.

Lancaster Park has long been more functional than picturesque but, right now,it can only described as a building site with a substantial redevelopmentscheme having taken out a third of the ground's seats. And with no stands toprovide protection, a gusting wind was blowing straight across the outfieldwhen play began.

Whether in 20 or 50-over cricket, England, too, are still a work in progress.

But recent performances suggest they may be further down the road to completionthan the Christchurch construction team.

Batting first here, by choice, just two singles came from Kyle Mills' firstover.

It was when Paul Hitchcock entered the attack, for the fifth over, though, thatEngland's openers Mustard and Luke Wright really burst into life.

At 33, Hitchcock was playing his first international for four yearsand, six balls later, he probably wished the wait had been a bit longer.

Mustard welcomed him back by driving a six over wide mid-on. …
