Strength in Numbers as Power Walk Will Tackle Cancer

A POWER walk is being introduced in the North to giving people the chance to put their best foot forward for breast cancer causes.

The first SunWalk Newcastle is organised by charity Walk the Walk to raise pounds 250,000 and get thousands of women, men and children pounding the streets in September. Newcastle United Women's FC is set to get the city fit before the event by supporting the launch of the walk at Exhibition Park on September 7.

Walk the Walk founder Nina Barough said: "I'm delighted to be opening a second SunWalk in the UK.

"The power walking challenge will not only help us raise even more awareness and money for vital breast cancer causes but also encourage thousands of men, women and children to become fitter and healthier in 2008.

"The SunWalk has so far been a wonderful success - it has been fantastic to see so many children getting excited about taking on a goal." The new event follows in the footsteps of a sister walk in Bristol which last year saw 2,500 people power walk in spectacularly decorated bras - a trademark of the charity - to raise nearly pounds 250,000. …
