A NEWCASTLE school is planning a reunion of a different kind ahead of its move to a state-of-the-art new building.

Work began on the new Walbottle Campus Technology College a year ago, and while clearing out parts of the current school building, exams manager Julie Darby, 39, discovered hundreds of unclaimed exam certificates, dating back as far as 1967. She explained: "I think a lot of people when they have collected their results think that their results slip is all they need, and don't realise about their certificate.

"We have managed to trace a few of the more recent GCSE and A-level certificate owners and reunite them with their awards, but as some of the CSE papers date back to the 1970s and 1980s when the school was known as Walbottle Comprehensive and before that the Grammar School, people have got married, moved away and we are struggling to find them."

The big move out of the current school building, on Hexham Road, is happening on July 18, and if certificates are not claimed by then, the school will be forced to return them to each individual exam board to destroy. …
