AMERICAN crime show CSI has inspired a murder mystery investigation at an East Cleveland school.

In a new project, members of Freebrough College's Engineering and Science Club are using forensic techniques like those seen in TV hit CSI to search for the 'murderer' of a student who went missing.

The pretend investigation was set up by teachers Abbie Baynes and Jamie Thompson, who said they were inspired by the show about crime scene investigators.

The youngsters, who attend the club after school, began the project by being told they had to look for a missing Year 10 girl.

A couple of weeks later, based on information gathered through looking at text messages and records, the youngsters discovered the skeleton of the imaginary girl in a building at the back of the school. The pupils dusted for fingerprints, using UV light and cameras and reconstructed the girl's face to solve the crime.
