Red Rose Ball Brings out the Stars; John Travolta and His Wife Lend Their Presence to St. Vincent's Event

There were no limos for John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston, who were honored guests Friday at St. Vincent's HealthCare's Red Rose Ball at the Jacksonville Marriott at Southpoint.

Instead, their friend and attorney, Mike Ossi, honorary chairman for the event, picked the couple up at the airport in his sport utility vehicle.

It was unpretentious and easier for a tall man to get into, but roomy enough not to wrinkle Preston's gown, a Badgley Mischka. If anyone's interested, Travolta was wearing an Armani tuxedo.

Both looked the image of movie stars, but did not act it. Genial, friendly and patient to a fault, they entered quietly, greeted Betsy Lovett with, "Hey, Betsy, how are you?"

Lovett, who spent a day on the set of a film Travolta made in Jacksonville, was stunned that he remembered her name. She looked at Travolta and said, "Oh, you're divine."

From then on, it was grip, grin, smile and pose for the camera. …
