CLAYTON SC (76) moved two points ahead of nearest rivals Stakeford Welfare at the top of the Ashington Chisholm and Scottish Breweries League.

With only three matches lef to play, they now look title favourites after a 5-1 home win over Choppington.

Defending champions Gosforth SC (68) trail the leaders by six points with the same amount of matches to play.

THE only change in the Ashington Veteran Leagues snooker section came in third place, where Lynemouth S/Hirst A moved up to join Clayton SC (32) who were without a game.

Veterans C (35) are second, two points behind their B Team who head the field with 37 points.

The only winners in the top three of the billiards were Bomarsund A (33), who now trail second placed Veterans A by a single point with Bomarsund B a further point in front of the field in first.
