Schools Join Up for Day of Learning; Top Class

MORE than 3,000 pupils from five North East schools joined forces for the day for one very big lesson.

The schools in Ashington, Northumberland, ditched the curriculum and their timetables recently to host their first Deep Learning Day.

The five schools involved were Wansbeck and Central first schools, Bothal and Hirst Park middle schools and Ashington High School Sports College, with an age range from just three to 18.

The ambitious project was organised by the Ashington Learning Partnership, formed when Ashington High was successful in its bid to become one of the first trust schools in the country.

The five schools formed the partnership to share expertise and best practice and yesterday's event was the first of many programmed activities to show how the staff and students can work well together.

The theme of the day was global awareness with different aspects being delivered by different subject specialists from geography, science, music, art, sport and modern languages. …
