Rugby Union: Woods Refuses to Dwell on Loss; RUGBY LEAGUE

GATESHEAD Thunder head coach Dave Woods is still happy with the team's preparations for the start of their league season despite the heavy defeat to Featherstone in the Northern Rail Cup last weekend.

Thunder fell to a comprehensive 48-6 loss and, although Woods believes they did not play as well as they could, he is philosophical about where it leaves his side.

He said: "This is our preseason really and I'm not too worried about last weekend and the result. That was, according to their coaching staff and fans, the best they've played so far this year and they are a quality side.

"We didn't help ourselves with some of the things we did, but this is the time of the season to iron out problems.

We've always said the league is our main priority."

Thunder take on Hunslet Hawks for the second time in less than a month this weekend, but Woods is expecting a tougher game than the 11-try romp they enjoyed in the sides' earlier Northern Rail Cup meeting. …
