TEESSIDE tots had their tastebuds tickled with a special cuppa served the Chinese way.

Wen Tai from company UK China Connect visited children at Rosedene Nursery in Saltburn to teach them about Chinese food and culture. The visit marked the start of the Chinese New Year.

Wen Tai told the youngsters about Chinese tea and gave them a Tai Chi demonstration.

The visit was so successful she plans to return to the nursery, on Marske Mill Lane, to make Chinese vegetables and rice for the children to try.

Annemarie Gray, deputy manager at the nursery, said: "The children absolutely loved it and a couple of the children had a few cups of tea, they really liked it.

"We want to widen the children's knowledge of other cultures and have an understanding of different countries' way of living and show the people do drink different types of tea and eat different types of food."

Gazette People did a quick search on the internet and discovered that as a sign of respect in Chinese society the younger generation always shows its respect to the older generation by offering a cup of tea - something I'm sure most Teesside parents would appreciate. …
