BLYTH Spartans, who travel to Harrogate Town in the Blue Square North tomorrow, increased their unbeaten run to seven games with a 1-1 draw at Barrow on Saturday.

The Cumbrians had pinched victory with two late goals at Croft Park last month - and they almost repeated the feat after the Spartans had led for most of the game.

Utility player Michael Hedley headed home a Gareth Williams cross after just seven minutes to put Blyth ahead, and they had another effort ruled out for offside five minutes later.

Mid-table Barrow finally scored 14 minutes from time in a scrappy encounter when Matt Henney, who has just signed a new contract at Holker Street, celebrated with the equaliser.

A mistake by central defender Gary Brown, impressive since signing from Jarrow Roofing in mid-season, led to Barrow's leveller.

The Bluebirds had dominated the second half and, while Blyth again put in another solid shift in defence, it was all hands to the pump at the end.

Manager Harry Dunn, whose side drew 2-2 at Vauxhall Motors the previous weekend, is delighted with his side's new-found resilence. …
