WHY is it that so many people let themselves off the hook with excuses as to why they don't have enough time to do things they want or need to do, or enough time to be with the people they want to be with most?

It's true to say that in this day and age, time does indeed seem to be a rare commodity. However, if we have people and things that are important to us, to me it's not so much a case of finding time but a case of making time.

I wonder how much our lack of time has to do with our ability to manage ourselves and our time most effectively and to make sure our personal needs are met along with everyone else's.

We women are particularly good at this, often putting the needs of others before our own, and we certainly pay the price for doing so.

Regularly I'm asked how I manage to juggle so many tasks and how I still manage to work through my daily 'to do' list to complete everything, yet I manage to have time for other things outside my work that are also important to me.

I decided to test out my own time-keeping abilities to see if I could provide some more in-depth answers and an accurate account of a week in the life of a life coach. However, my column wouldn't provide enough space for this, so instead I have recorded a typical day in my life, hoping to demonstrate what we can actually fit in, if we plan well.

For me to plan my time best, it is essential that I keep a regular daily diary. Using a diary is an essential tool in supporting me with my work, planning and with my ability to organise my time most efficiently.

One of my personal goals for this year is to create a far healthier work/life balance and to practice what I preach even more. Having a business that is just three years old, I can see how I have devoted more time to developing my business than to spending enough time with people who really matter, so I am now making the necessary adjustments.
