The great outdoors is calling but you often have to look to the future to get in on the best of what Florida has to offer. However, in St. Johns County there's a great annual event that allows we outdoors enthusiasts to get a special look at the past and present.

Florida's Birding & Foto Fest will be held April 10-13, though locals will have to sign up early to beat the crowd. The sightseeing trips and guest speakers we have lined up this year are so popular the events will fill up quickly. The event has a new home at the GTM Research Reserve Environmental Education Center, on A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach, but participants are encouraged to register online.

Some of our most notable presenters will be Rob Sheppard, Rick Sammon, Kevin Karlson, Greg Downing, Lewis Kemper, Reinier Munguia, Heather Forcier, and Chas Glatzer. Other experts will also lead tours, give digi-scoping workshops and provide presentations.

Rob Sheppard, a nationally recognized expert in the field of digital imaging technology, will present several workshops on the technical aspects of digital and nature photography. He has events scheduled for all four days of this event but most of the opportunities have a maximum number of people allowed, so sign up in advance.

Rick Sammon, author of 27 books on digital and nature photography, will also be with us again this year. Sammon travels the globe searching for new images and offers presentations around the world, so his slots will also be very popular.

Kevin Karlson, long-time birding expert and photographer, will be the event's keynote speaker.

Greg Downing will present an Introduction to Digital Bird Photography, a presentation on Metering Techniques, and a Birds of Prey in Field Workshop. Although he photographs all kinds of wildlife and nature, Downing says he specializes in avian photography because he is such a lover of birds. …
