STUDENTS drinking at the University of Teesside bar gave their views on the binge drinking culture.

Gemma Gladstone, 20, from Sedgefield, is studying sports therapy. She says she knows the risk of excess drinking and even has her own motto: "I drink, I get drunk, I fall over - no problem!"

She drinks five nights a week.

"On a night out I have a bottle of wine, about five pints of Corona beer and a couple of shots," she said.

"But I take milk thistle tablets because they help the liver and I don't usually get a hangover.

"My parents let me taste alcohol, like a shandy, when I was about 11, but I can't remember if I liked it.

"I know I probably drink too much, but it's my choice. I don't get myself into trouble."

Mature student Craig Oram, 35, from Washington, is in his second year of a history degree. He had his first alcohol when he was 10.

"I go out probably twice a week, normally meeting at the Student's Union then going on somewhere else. …
