HAVING read the letters of A Dunstan and M Dimmock (Voice of the North, February 16 & 18), I feel I must have my say.

First of all there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is a Christian nation, whether we attend our churches regularly or not. One does not have to attend church to be a Christian.

I am over 80 years old and could not tell you the last time I went to church, probably for a wedding or funeral. It is not possible to judge the number of those in this country who are Christians by the number which attend church. Blame those who preach in our churches for the bad attendances. However, of one thing I am certain, unlike M Dimmock: there is a creator and there is no doubt of the existence of Jesus. There is no greater truth than the Ten Commandments, the pity is that the vast majority of us do not live by them. …
