Reviewers describe American Aquarium as an "indie rock band with a country flare." Other attempts at labeling their style include "alternative country," "twang-core" and "garage folk." A critic for Independent Weekly posted the following description on www.cdbaby: "American Aquarium is a big, roots-rock blunt object, a monolithic, acoustic guitar-based band, vicariously drinking behind the wheel and careening down a North Carolina country road via B.J. Barham's major chord laments."

Sounds like an adventure. The six-piece band takes the stage at 9 p.m. Monday at Jack Rabbits. The club is at 1528 Hendricks Ave. Call (904) 398-7496 for ticket prices.

WILD-EYED THIRSTY BOY

Imagine stopping by a Krystal hamburger joint in rural Georgia, ordering a drink and finding a picture of yourself on the cup. It happened recently to Jeff Carlisi, who grew up in Jacksonville and made a name for himself as guitarist with .38 Special. Carlisi, who now lives in Atlanta and runs Camp Jam, a sort of rock 'n' roll summer camp for kids, said his friend is a publicist for Krystal and hooked him up with the Krystal Lover Hall of Fame. They had a ceremony and gave him a plaque and everything. "It was cooler than getting my first gold record," he said. And yes, he really does like Krystal. He said the band used to rehearse in a space on Riverside Avenue, then head for a Krystal that stood nearby. …
