TWIN brothers have been charged with murder after a young dad-to-be died following a knife attack.

Paul Gilbert had been "buzzing" at the news he was to become a father for the first time.

But the 22-year-old's life has been cut short and a baby was robbed of a dad.

Philip Craggs, 24, of Emily Street, Walker, and Mark Craggs, 24, of Eastgarth, Newbiggin Hall, both Newcastle, had already been remanded in custody after they appeared in court charged with a section 18 wounding in connection with the assault on February 13. But now, following Paul's death in hospital on Friday, they have been charged with murder.

Now best pals have paid tribute to the cheeky-grinned joker who loved to make people laugh and have set up websites to honour his memory.

Gemma McKenna, 20, who had known Paul, nicknamed Pee, since schooldays, said: "I just can't believe he's gone. He was the best friend you could wish for. He would always listen to you and has helped me through the bad times.

"He was a real clown and loved to make people laugh. He was always messing about and doing daft stuff and was really popular.

"Everyone is absolutely gutted that he's gone and know this has happened to the wrong person. I never knew of him getting in trouble.

"I set up the website to honour him like he deserves to be, as he was a really special lad."

Paul was left fighting for his life in intensive care after he was knifed in the stomach on February 13 in Welbeck Road, Walker.

He staggered towards his home in Newbold Street, but collapsed in Alfred Street.

Doctors fought to save him but he died in the early hours of February 29, surrounded by his family. A post mortem found he had died of multiple organ failure as a result of stab wounds.

Paul had only recently learned his girlfriend Lyndsey O'Neill, 17, was pregnant and was said to be "buzzing" at the news. …
