Late-Arriving Daly Bounced; He Misses His Pro-Am Tee Time, So He's out of the Palmer Invitational

ORLANDO -- John Daly's troubles mounted Wednesday when he missed his pro-am time for the PGA Tour's Arnold Palmer Invitational and was disqualified from the tournament -- which had given him a sponsor's exemption because he wasn't otherwise qualified.

Daly, a two-time major champion, had an 8:40 a.m. starting time at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge, but he told Tour officials he believed his time was 9:47 a.m.

Andy Pazder, the Tour's senior vice president for tournament administration, said the only accepted excuses for missing a pro-am are injuries, other illnesses requiring medical attention or a serious personal emergency.

"Hasn't been a good day," Daly told the AP. "This is the last thing I needed in my life."

The incident came one day after swing coach Butch Harmon cut ties with Daly after hearing of media reports of the golfer drinking in a party tent at the PODS Championship.

"I would not like to discuss anything about a specific incident," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said of Daly. …
