Police Identify Man Found Dead in Wooded Area Sunday; Police Would Only Say Dwayne Harden, 56, Died from Foul Play

Jacksonville Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man whose body they recovered in a wooded area downtown late Sunday night.

Police identified the victim Monday as Arthur Dwayne Harden and said he died following foul play. They found his body in the 600 block of North Washington Street, police spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said.

Authorities didn't comment on the cause of Harden's death or report any arrests.

Police saw the body after answering a call about a battery behind Fire Station 1, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

GIRL, 7, WHO DROWNED IN HOTEL POOL IS IDENTIFIED

A 7-year-old girl who drowned while swimming in a Jacksonville airport hotel pool Saturday has been identified.

Lakia Autry was visiting Jacksonville with a group from Mobile, Ala., and had been swimming at the Holiday Inn at 14670 Duval Road when another member of the group saw her under water. The witness initially thought she was swimming then realized she was not moving, according to a police report.

The girl was pulled from the water but she was unresponsive, the report said.

MAN INJURED IN ACCIDENT AT TRAIL RIDGE LANDFILL

A man who suffered critical injuries in an accident at the Trail Ridge Landfill off U.S. 301 South was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital Monday afternoon.

The industrial accident involved a trash truck, and it took personnel from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department some time to extricate the man, a spokesman said.

Because of privacy laws, the spokesman could not release the man's identity. Without his name, hospital officials could not provide an update on his condition. …
