NICO ROSBERG felt a quick getaway was the key to his first Formula One podium finish after the Williams driver claimed third in the Australian Grand Prix last weekend.

During 58 frenetic laps in Melbourne, only seven cars took the chequered flag - but Rosberg kept his cool to come home 8.1 seconds behind winner Lewis Hamilton and ensure Williams began the new campaign on an unexpected high note.

With the removal of traction control this season, many drivers believed the start would provide the best opportunity to gain valuable places.

"It was just a great start," said Rosberg.

"The start is nowadays down to the driver and also down to the engineers, how they set up the clutch and all the rest of it so I think all of us did a good job there.
