ONE of Teesside's most exciting new bands will be flying the flag for an Arts Council project this week.

The Transit project seeks to establish a committed network of promoters on a national scale who will work towards increasing the amount of exposure given to emerging musical talent throughout England.

ANKLES headline a Transit gig at the little room upstairs in Doctor Brown's on Thursday night.

Featuring ex/current members of The Snowfall Report, Madflower, Two Day Late, Dustbyte and Motionview Emergency, the trio play clever mathy indie-rock that they describe as "a bit like The Shins, but lower."

Joining them will be hotly tipped Newcastle group SPIES IN LIMBO, who have earned comparisons to the likes of Interpol and Maximo Park and are expected by many to become the next North-east band to make big waves nationally.

Completing the bill this time around will be Sunderland's cheeky indie kids THE DEADWOODS. Expect some catchy indie-pop ditties influenced by all things Barrat and Doherty. …
