Ryan Puts the Heat on More Powerful Rivals

RYAN CHAMPION showed his class in the North Yorkshire woodland he knows so well to claim third place in the Whitby-based North Humberside Forest Rally.

Champion, from Castleton, and co-driver Jemma Bellingham, were quicker than many of the more powerful World Rally Cars in their B13 spec Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7.

And they were only two seconds behind runners-up Michael O'Brien and Ian Allsop (Ford Focus WRC).

The event was won by Steve Perez and Howard Davies, also in a Focus WRC.

Brotton's Gavin Collyer, partnered by Alan Ward, (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 3) suffered engine problems for much of the day and came home 45th (eighth in class B13).

But, given those problems and the slippery conditions, he was glad just to finish. SIMON BAINBRIDGE from Stokesley (Audi TT) claimed the sports libre honours and finished seventh overall in the opening round of the MSA British Sprint Championship at Croft.

Roy Dawson (3.5 Gould-NME GR55), the 2006 champion, hit top form to take overall victory, although he needed a late charge to wrest the top spot from the Robb family. …
