Family and friends of longtime First Coast golf professional and golf-course owner Buster Reed will be honoring Reed in the best way they know how: a round of golf with some other friends and even a few people who never knew one of area golf's most colorful figures.

The first Buster Reed Memorial Tournament will be April 21 at the Marsh Landing Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament will go to the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation's scholarship program.

Reed died in December at age 79. Reed later was involved in ownership groups that developed the Dunes, the Hidden Hills Country Club and Cimarrone. He also had the distinction of being the low professional in the first Gate Invitational - at the age of 58.

To honor the anniversary of the Tour Wives Association, 20 area "champions," or those who have been involved with charitable works, will be honored May 7, the day before the first round of The Players Championship. …
