Women Hunted over Cash Change Scam; APPEAL AS PAIR ARE SUSPECTED OF COUNTER EXCHANGE RACKET

WOMEN fraudsters are believed to be behind a quick-witted cash scam.

Police believe at least two females could be travelling around the region working to obtain cash in a counter-exchange racket.

Today Chronicle readers are being asked to put names to the faces in these photographs.

The appeal, made by Northumbria Police through the crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers, is to help identify and trace the pair.

In the latest strike, two women went into Eaglestons store, Carden Avenue, South Shields, on Tuesday, February 19.

The first approached the Post Office counter and spoke to the cashier, while her accomplice remained by the front door. But she kept staff members in conversation at the main counter.

This had the effect of distracting staff as well as blocking their view.

The first woman asked for pounds 300 in pounds 20 notes to be changed into pounds 10 notes.

As the money was being counted, the woman distracted the cashier by asking for dollars. …
